Star-gazing city to host 36,000 weddings in day

NEW DELHI, India - With the planets perfectly aligned for a happy marriage, more than 36,000 weddings will take place in the Indian capital on Sunday, threatening gridlock in the already congested city as guests race to parties.

Indians primarily rely on Vedic astrology -- which dates back to ancient Hindu texts -- to fix the dates and times for weddings or when buying a car or home.

Auspicious days are calculated by pandits, or priests, after elaborate mathematical calculations.
